Rolex's development history is closely related to its founder Hans
Wilsdorf. 1881 He was born in Bavarian city, when he was young, he begun to get
involved in international business. He started off with cultured pearl business,
when 19 years old in Swiss La Chaux-de-Fonds he is an agency for watches factory
specializing in the export.
In 1905, he set up his own enterprise and called it "Wilsdorf and David";
this company mainly was responsible for sales of watches, but it also researched
and developed homemade watch.
A.m. 8:00, July 2, 1908, Rolex officially was
registered as trademark. The first batch of Rolex got immediate attention for
its superb technical quality. A small Rolex in 1914 got A-level certificate
issued by Kew Observatory, and this was the highest reputation that this famous
Observatory had never issued before. Its accuracy was recognized by all over the
world, which is the great event in the whole and makes watches’
price in Europe and the United States rise in double. Since then, Rolex's
quality means the accuracy.
After The First World War Rolex moved back to Geneva, under the promotion
of the founder, Rolex continually innovated, created, and perfected itself. Its
research has two directions: waterproof and automatic.
In 1926, the first waterproof, dustproof watch has finally come out, and
this is the famous “Oyster " watch. The economic crisis of 1929 struck
Switzerland, but Rolex has not been affected. In this period it invented a kind
of automatic winding mechanism made "perpetual watch" which later became
fashionable for a time. This automatic watch had a pendulum that before had
never been used in the watch, and it has brought a revolution for watch
industry, and it was the prisoner of all automatic watches. In 1945, Rolex also produced
“DateJust” watch having the date function. In 1956, Rolex produced “DayDate”
watch with date and week.
