The development of Panerai Ⅱ


In 1997 Vendôme group (now the Richemont group) purchased Panerai brand, took over the production of watch, compass, flashlight and depth measuring instrument. Watch factory began to launch new products, to enhance production quality. Originally as designated watches for the Italy naval forces, since launched in the global market, it increasingly demonstrated significant international status.
 
In 1998 Panerai for the first time launched mechanical automatic winding watches in the international market: Luminor Submersible, Luminor GMT, and Luminor Power Reserve that could display the residual energy of movement.
 
In 1999 at the Geneva International Exhibition of advanced clocks and watches, Panerai introduced several modern series that had through great innovation, including Panerai Luminor watch having small watchcase, diameter up to 40 mm, with metal watchstrap; another one Luminor chronograph, with timing function, and its watchcase had been redesigned and completely followed usual aesthetics of the watch factory; another one Panerai Luminor timing watch, using titanium alloy and fine steel two kinds of excellent materials to produce watch case and chain.
 
In 2000 Panerai designed Luminor Submersible - professional diving watch of 1000 meters, in full compliance with NIHS diving watch specification. It can withstand pressure underwater 1000 meters, and the thickness of surface’s sapphire crystal glass is up to 5.1 mm, and watch case thickness is up to 3 mm, with a helium valves special for decompression.
 
In 2004 Radiomir series became more prominent because of “8 Days” watches. This wrist watch was very retro and again used the key of modern mechanical watches – hand winding power storage for 8 days movement after through the test of “Officine Panerai”. The 1940s watches all used Angelus movement, while the latest watches was based on Jaeger-LeCoultre movement. Watch case diameter is 45 mm, and the perfect combination of delicate watch ear and arc outer ring of watchcase, and screw-in watch back and crown ensured the100 meters waterproof depth.

New Products of Panerai


In 2005, P.2002 watch movement is the first one researched and developed by Panerai itself. Power storage for 8 days watch adopted this hand mechanical movement that represented the latest technology. This watch movement consists of 245 parts (among them 191 parts are not the same), and its main power storage is designed in a new device, comprising three gossamer rod (Panerai’s patent) and a frequency of 4 Hz free induction balance pendulum, and vibration frequency is 28800 times per hour. Horizontal dynamic storage display (Panerai’s patent) is located in the six o'clock position. P. 2002 movement also has GMT, local time of above 12 hours, as well as the a.m. and p.m., hour, minutes and seconds. Panerai recently opened the first store in Hong Kong besides in Italy, and this also was the first time this brand opened the store since in 2001 it reopened family store in Florence. This store was located in the Prince Building of Central Hong Kong, covered an area of 45 square meters. The store's design was responsible by famous Italy architect and was completed under the art supervision of Panerai Italy headquarters. Designers kept the brand’s important element, and combined ancient with modern characteristics, then integrated into the new environment.

The development of Panerai Ⅰ


In 1956, on demand of Egyptian Navy, Panerai especially produced an outsize Radiomir wrist watch. Its driving Angelus movement has storage power up to eight days, and rotation scale interval of watchcase is five minutes, and it can calculate diving time. In addition, watch factory for other Mediterranean many nations’ navy limitedly produced wrist watches (approximately 30).The same year, Panerai in Italy patented the protection device of watch crown, and this device could lock watch crown to reach the waterproof effect. This invention was patented in the United States in 1960.
 
In 1972 Giuseppe Panerai died. His business was taken over by engineer Dino Zei, and he renamed the family business to Panerai Company limited. Watch factory continued to cooperate with Italy navy, to provide wrist watch, tools and various precision instruments for it.
 
In 1980 Panerai designed a wrist watch that could withstand pressure of 1000 meters depth in sea. In 1995 watch factory launched Slytech special series watches. “Sly” is nickname of actor Sylvester Stallone. As a watch fans, when he filmed movie “Daylight”, because of the need to the film content, he ordered a “Submersible” watch from Panerai. Subsequently, he again ordered a “Daylight” wrist watch with white watch dial and a “Mare Nostrum” watch improved by himself from Panerai. On the back of these works were carved Stallone’s signature.
